Operational Assessments

CDS is a nationally recognized consulting firm, focused on helping organizations identify their own best practices and learn successful practices and strategies implemented at other organizations.  CDS has conducted over 100 operational reviews of senior living organizations, including continuing care retirement communities, corporate offices, nursing homes and assisted living communities.

CDS operational assessments include a multi-day site visit to the campus to meet with senior managers and department leadership, from most operation and service areas of your organization.  During the interviews, CDS will learn about specific policies and procedures and brainstorm with the team about creative strategies and operating practices to optimize short-term and long-term financial performance.

The scope of the operational assessment includes:

  • Examination of the current organizational structure and staffing in each operating department;
  • Analysis of historical and projected financial statements;
  • Evaluation of key operating metrics and development of best practice benchmarks;
  • Analysis and focus on determining the viability of key business lines such as home health and hospice;
  • Review of marketing practices, marketing studies conducted by outside professionals, contract language and pricing structure;
  • Discussion of results with management, board, and lenders;
  • Preparation of a written report with detailed analysis and recommendations for strategic practices, improved operating efficiency, cost containment and program enhancement consistent with best practices for senior living organizations and the mission and culture of your organization.

Implementation Support

CDS has worked with several clients to enhance leadership’s knowledge of the senior living industry. Services include coaching, review of financial statements, assistance with debt service covenant requirements and other special projects and typically include a commitment from CDS of 6 to 10 days per year on site and 4 to 8 hours per month phone consultation.

Management support services are provided on a monthly retainer basis and typically are for periods of six months to two years, but can be customized to suit management’s needs.

“We worked with CDS in the past and when we started experiencing similar operational challenges, I picked up the phone right away and called Dan. Dan and his team are very meticulous. They will dig deep in their operational review to find opportunities that will lead you to success. I appreciate how they focus on maintaining your culture while recommending financial efficiencies and revenue growth strategies.”
